Iran condemns deadly Israeli attack on UN school in Gaza
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman expressed condemnation for the barbaric and heinous massacre of Palestinian citizens in the recent attacks on the UN-run “al Fakhoura” school, in Jabalia refugee camp.
Nasser Kanaani attributed these atrocities to the Zionist regime, labeling it as a "child-killing" entity.
He highlighted the unfortunate reality that due to the inaction of countries worldwide and international bodies in the face of the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank, the Zionist regime persistently engages in new war crimes and mass killings.
“The Israeli forces continue to particularly target Palestinian citizens including women and children, within their homes, residences, and temporary shelters for refugees,” Kanaani observed.
The spokesperson called for a collective global action, stressing the urgent need for deterring action by Islamic countries against the blatant genocide and crimes committed by the Israeli regime.
His appeal was in response to the continued oppression and defenselessness of the Palestinian people in the wake of escalating violence.
He urged he international community to take swift and resolute measures to address the unfolding humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
In the recent attack on the "al-Fakhoura" school in northern Gaza, at least 50 people were reported killed, according to an official at the Gaza health ministry.
There are also reports of a separate attack on another school.
Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner General of the UN Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA), expressed his shock in witnessing "horrifying images" of people killed and injured in the school tragedy.
The "al-Fakhoura" School had previously been targeted by the Israeli army several times before the war, including air raids in 2009, 2014, and earlier this month.
Recent events have heightened concerns as Israel continues to target civilian sites, escalating tensions in the region and causing a humanitarian crisis to unfold.
The Israeli military has been continuously pummelling civilian areas since the war broke out on October 7, following a surprise operation by the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas. Hamas’s attack was in response to the occupying regime’s intensified crimes against the Palestinian people in the West Bank including the deliberate Israeli desecration of Islamic sanctities in al-Quds (Jerusalem).
Al-Shifa hospital, the largest medical center in Gaza, has also been targeted by Israel, resulting in the tragic killing of many patients, including women and children.
Critics argue that Israeli military attacks on civilian areas, particularly in Gaza and the West Bank, have contributed to a dire situation with significant consequences for the affected population.
Reports indicate that the Israeli military's operations have resulted in a substantial number of civilian casualties, including women and children.
Advocates for peace and human rights emphasized the urgency of addressing the root causes of the conflict and finding a sustainable solution to protect the lives and well-being of the affected civilian population.
Many have called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, as the UN warned that conditions for Palestinian civilians are rapidly deteriorating.
Since the inception of the war, at least 12,300 Palestinians have been killed, including more than 5,000 children, and over 29,800 people sustained injuries during the war.
